Instagram = US$1 Billion

I'm sure you all heard: Instagram, a mobile photo-sharing app was bought by Facebook for 1 billion dollars! I wonder what will Facebook do with it - hopefully not too many changes.

For those who's not familliar with Instagram:
It’s a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your photos with friends and family. Snap a picture, choose a filter to transform its look and feel, then post to Instagram. Share to Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr too – it's as easy as pie. It's photo sharing, reinvented.

FYI - Instagram only started up 17 months ago and is now worth a billion dollars?! So crazy!

I'm a fan of it and started using it about 4 months ago. (btw - my profile pic to the right is an Instagram) I am loving it! It's fun - sharing your pics, picking a filter to match your image, being creative and it can sometimes turn your not so good pics into better one - who doesn't like that? I will share some of my instagram pics in the next posting.

Check out this Instagram Timeline Infographic created by Visually. Lots of interesting facts of how it progress to its current position.

In the infographic ‘Instagram: The Timeline’, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger raised US$500,000 to fund their app in March 2010.

In November 2010, the app was released in Apple’s app store.

In December 2010, the Instagram community hit 1 million users.

Hashtags were then added in January 2011—for people to discover photos or each other.

In June 2011, the number of users hit 5 million.

In August 2011, the 150 millionth photo uploaded onto the app.

A month thereafter, live filters, tilt-shift effects, and high-res photo options were added.

In September 2011, the community hit 10 million Instagram users.

In April this year, the app released Android version of its app, which hit 1 million downloads in a day; and got the app 30 million users altogether—which then brings us to Facebook buying Instagram for US$1 billion.
